Spring Cleaning Tips: Don't Forget these Deep Cleaning Tasks

Share

Spring has sprung, which means it’s time for spring cleaning! It’s a time to organize, de-clutter and prepare for the busy summer season. Everyone knows the basics, but here is a spring cleaning checklist for the tasks you may be forgetting. Don’t forget these deep cleaning tasks this year!

Vacuum and Shampoo Rugs: Synthetic carpets and rugs with waterproof backings can be deep-cleaned on your own. Rugs without backings require professional help.

Wipe Down Walls: Use a vacuum to remove dust. Tackle stubborn surface grime, especially prevalent in kitchens, with a solvent-free degreaser (test it first in an inconspicuous area to ensure it won’t mar the surface).

Dust the Hard to Reach Places: This includes the tops of ceiling fans and window casings. Always work from the top of a room down. Tip: Once you’re done, make sure to vacuum the floor to remove all dust that settled.

Clean and Reseal Grout Lines: Grout is extremely porous and stains easily. Protect it with a penetrating grout sealer.

Polish Metal Door and Window Hardware: Liquid polishes work well for medium-tarnished surfaces; pastes and creams are for heavier duty jobs.

Wash Window Screens: Using warm water and a mild dishwashing liquid, scrub each screen with a brush.

Wash Out Trash Cans: Take all trash cans outside, wash them with the hose and spray the insides with disinfectant. Leave them upside down to dry.

Clean Window Treatments: Many draperies and curtains are machine washable - check the labels! Wipe wooden blinds with a damp cloth. For metal blinds, use a damp cloth and mild dishwashing fluid.

Clean Upholstered Furnishings: Take cushions outside and shake them gently to remove dust. Use a vacuum to clean under seat cushions and in crevices.
