Two Men & A Vacuum Bust a Clogged Drain

Two Men & A Vacuum were once again called to the rescue when their next door neighbor discovered that her bathroom sink drain was clogged just as she was about to get ready for an important job interview!

After a quick investigation of the offending drain, Two Men & A Vacuum discovered the culprit: a tough mess of accumulated debris stopping up the flow of water! Now, the next door neighbor was meticulously clean, but as Two Men & A Vacuum knew, drain clogs can be just about inevitable, especially in bathrooms. Stray hairs that jump ship during brushing, beard and moustache trimmings, and even dust can get into the drain and form something of a secret hideaway for other bits of stuff that goes down the drain only to get stuck in and set up shop: toothpaste, makeup, soap - anything remotely gunky.

Two Men & A Vacuum immediately got to work, busting through the clogged drain and evicting the dastardly residents of the piping in order to allow their next door neighbor to get ready and make it to her interview on time.

Because the clog was relatively simple to bust through, they only had to use some baking soda and hot water to solve the problem. But because bathroom clogs can sometimes be tough to break through, Two Men & A Vacuum left their next door neighbor these instructions for a few different ways of clearing a clogged drain without harsh chemicals if her drain ever became clogged again:

First Method of Attack: Baking Soda and Boiling Water

1. While you’re boiling a big pot of water (at least 3 cups), tip 1 cup of baking soda down your drain.

2. Pour the boiling water into the drain (be careful!).

3. Repeat until the drain is clear.

Second Method of Attack: Baking Soda and Vinegar

1. Complete the first step of the baking soda and boiling water method.

2. This time, as your pour the boiling water into the drain, add a cup of white vinegar as well. The fizzing of the vinegar interacting with the baking soda can frequently break up tougher clogs than baking soda and boiling water alone.

Third Method of Attack: Washing Soda

1. Pour a cup of washing soda (similar to baking soda, but with a more alkaline pH) into your drain and allow it to sit for about an hour.

2. Proceed with the baking soda and boiling water method.

Supplemental Action: Brute Force

1. To further loosen up clogs, take your bathroom plunger and ensure a tight seal between the plunger head and the drain.

2. Plunge the drain like you would a toilet, with firm pulling and pushing action, before and after applying one of the above de-clogging methods.
